The Idea

The Idea

As a Literature teacher, books are of course a passion.

My dad, a retired carpenter, is also an avid reader. Last year he made me a Little Neighborhood Library for my house and although I knew I would love it, I REALLY loved it. My house is on a dead end road so I didn't think I would get many visitors. I was wrong

I get visitors every day. The 30 books I started with almost completely turned over into 30 new books. Neighbors left me notes, cards, even flowers thanking me for the library. This past Christmas a family with three small children brought me cookies with a card about how much they love the library. I leave sticky notes in the library to ask the regulars what kind of books they like. I have thoroughly enjoyed this library.

My dad and I were talking one day and I shared how much I love the libraries. We were looking at a bunch of very cool and unique designs online. We plan to move into creating some unique, custom libraries, but we also decided to make a standard library that could have easy to replace side panels so they could change look accordingly.  And hence our libraries were born. We worked and reworked the design a few times and we now have this design and we're really happy with it.

Being able to combine our passions--carpentry and reading and spreading the love of books--has been a special joy for this time in our lives. Thank you for being part of it and reading about our journey. We hope you consider putting a Little Library in your community.
